Future Coaches Academy Pilot SWHS strengthens relationships with Pine Shadows and Westwood

Athletics and Health Fitness has officially launched its second year of the Advanced Movers Initiative, and one of the "goals" for the second year was to launch a Future Coaches Academy. The main focus behind this is to build on the strengths and gifts of our current students who want to be coaches/teachers and help develop and equip them to be successful coaches in the future. The hope is also that they would come back to SBISD to coach for us when they graduate high school.

Spring Woods High School's boys and girls soccer teams have helped lay some of the groundwork for creating the "Future Coaches Academy". These students demonstrated dedication and commitment by sacrificing their time to both Westwood and Pine Shadows every Tuesday from 3:30pm-4:30pm. They came to coach and teach our students the fundamentals skills of soccer. They did this over the course of 9 weeks, and never missed a practice session. One of the student athletes even shared that "they wish when they were this age that they would have had someone to train them, so the fact that we have this opportunity this is why I love doing this".
Future Coaches Academy Coaching the students over 9 weeks
On Tuesday, November 19th, Spring Woods High School boys and girls soccer clubs provided an opportunity for "Future Tiger" 4th and 5th grade advanced movers from Pine Shadows and Westwood elementary to come meet their future teammates on the field at Spring Woods High School. They got the chance to put all the skills and fundamental movements of soccer that their Coaches from high school taught them over the last 9 weeks in a scrimmage with each other.

The girls game was first followed by a halftime show that was organized by the "Future Coaches Academy." The halftime show consisted of the different clubs within SWHS that our students will have the choice of participating in at the high school level.

They had the cheerleaders, Tigerettes, Drum Line, Color Guard, and ALAS who came out to support this student driven event.

The boys then played in their scrimmage with their future teammates. The community was invited out to this main event complimentary of SWHS, and even had the opportunity to grab some BBQ made by the students. The "Future Coaches Academy" hosted an amazing event this evening, and were very organized and professional. One of the student athlete coaches told Coach Yaya, "I have a new found respect for all that you have to do to prepare for an event"

Their hard work and efforts will pay off in the future, because they made a huge impact on these students which can only be seen in the years to come.
